The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Dr. Abdullahi Adamu Candido, has disclosed while briefing the media on the council's plan to develop the talent and capacities of children within the municipality, that he and the area council are collaborating with professionals from the ministry of Education and Federal Capital Territory for the design and development of a school for gifted and talented children which is expected to open on September this year. He said: "We intend to have a school for the Gifted and Talented. We are already consulting with the relevant stakeholders and we will hit the ground running from February. By God's grace, the school should be ready by June/July so that by December, the school identified talents across Abuja municipality will have been admitted. According to a survey conducted by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), indicated 5 out of everything 1,000 children are impacted by hearing loss, with cases being diagnosed between age three and seventeen. In 2013, CDC also conducted another survey which estimated at least 12.5 percent of children and adolescent age 6 to 19 have suffered permanent damage to their hearing due to exposure to excessive noise.
